Pantone has named it's 2018 Color of the Year! For all of my non-design followers, Pantone is the world's leading color authority. We can now expect to see UltraViolet on runways, in graphic designs and prominently featured in the products of other visual industries.
WHY IS THIS RELEVANT TO ME?
Do you remember the scene in "The Devil Wears Prada" when Miranda tells our heroine that the color of her sweater was hand-selected years before by the people in the room? The Pantone Color of the Year is selected each year by a small panel chosen by Pantone to select the color they think will most accurately capture the "zeitgeist" of the year. Anyone who works in a visual industry ignores it at their own peril, risking irrelevancy.
DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE TO USE IT?
In a word, no. But it's something to be aware of. Pantone's yearly selections are announced in advance of the period of time they will be used, in order to allow employees in these industries to capitalize on the trends and incorporate them into their work. Regardless of whether you'd like to see UltraViolet in your materials in the coming year, it's important for you to know your designer is staying on top of trend forecasting.
At Vivat Caroline, we stay up to date on the latest trends to make sure your materials are both high-quality and relevant! Call or email today to talk about this in more detail!
